Posters and presented papers are the purpose of the conference and all prospective participants are required to submit a Presenter’s Form. As this is a large conference, we ask that you follow the instructions for presenters and session organizers closely. Please respect the requirements; they will ensure a successful conference. Instructions for
Submitting Paper and Poster Abstracts
If you wish to present a paper or a poster at the 36th Annual CAA Conference, you need to:
Complete a Presenter’s Form
Complete a Conference Registration Form

Ensure that you are a member of the Canadian Archaeological Association (www.canadianarchaeology.com). Membership details are available here: www.canadianarchaeology.com/membership.lasso. You will be able to join the CAA at the conference.
DEADLINE: The deadline for submitting a proposal for a paper or a poster is February 15, 2003. Presenters must also register for the conference before February 15, 2003.

Submitting Session Abstracts
If you are planning on organizing a session, you must:

You must also ensure that participants in your session have submitted Presenter’s Forms and registered for the conference before February 15, 2003. It is strongly encouraged that you contact the Program Coordinators at caa2003@mcmaster.ca as soon as possible so that your proposed session can be posted on the conference website.
Information for
Presenters and Session Organizers
You must meet the deadlines listed above. Proposals for papers, posters, or sessions will not be accepted after February 15, 2003.
Presented papers: It is strongly recommended that papers be between 15 and 18 minutes long. Each presenter has no more than 20 minutes. If you wish to entertain questions, you must accommodate this within the 20 minutes. Please allow up to 2 minutes for set up time. Organizers will cut off speakers who abuse these parameters.
Audiovisuals: Presenters may supplement their papers with slides, acetate overhead, and PowerPoint presentations. It is recommended that only one of these formats be used for each paper.
A special note regarding PowerPoint: if you plan to use a PowerPoint presentation you must:
a) Use PowerPoint for PCs or convert your presentation to PowerPoint for PCs.
and
b) Bring your presentation on a CD and be prepared to submit it to your session organizer at least one hour before your session begins. Other formats such as zip disks will not be accepted. Do not expect to use your own laptop. All presentations will be loaded on one laptop that will be provided for each session.
Posters: Presenters will be provided with space no more than 4’ high and 8’ wide. It is recommended that posters be printed as single sheets. If you choose to assemble your poster at the conference, you must provide your own supplies.
Session Organizers: Session organizers are expected to act as chairs for their sessions or to appoint a suitable representative to act as chair. Session organizers are encouraged to contact the Program Coordinators at caa2003@mcmaster.ca as soon as possible with information about the nature of the session and the potential participants. Session organizers must ensure that all presenters have submitted Presenter’s Forms.
Session Chairs: Sessions are divided into 20 minute blocks for paper presentations. This time block includes preparation time, set-up time, and questions. If you choose to entertain questions after each presentation, please ensure that the papers are 15 minutes long. It is recommended that presentations be no more than 18 minutes long. Sessions are expected to run on time.
Session chairs are also responsible for ensuring that papers on PowerPoint are loaded onto a single laptop computer that works with the audiovisual system at the conference. You may provide your own laptop for this purpose. You must load the presentations on the laptop in advance of the session. Time slots will be provided for testing of laptops and presentations.
