ELECTRONIC
ROADMAP TO EVNET
EVNET (Network for the
Evaluation of Education and Training Technologies), as a collaborative research
network, is committed to maximum transparency in its operations. EvNet
therefore operates the following three internet listserv based services, and
one intranet service (LITTLE RED SCHOOL HOUSE).
An interested party will
normally be involved with only one or two of the services, one for information
only and the other for participation.
Two of the internet listservs
(EVNETNEWS and EVNETFORUM) are open to the public. One internet
service (EVNETWORK) and the intranet service (LITTLE RED SCHOOL
HOUSE) is reserved for in house dialogue among EvNet members, though LITTLE
RED SCHOOL HOUSE contains general access areas for students, workers, learners,
and instructors.
Those wishing to maintain a
casual watching brief should subscribe to EVNETNEWS@yorku.ca. Those with an
active desire to participate in a dialogue with the general issues addressed by
EvNet's research should subscribe to EVNETFORUM@yorku.ca. Those participating
in, and who are members of, the network will be subscribed to EVNETWORK, and
should make arrangements to have themselves subscribed to LITTLE RED SCHOOL
HOUSE.
It may make sense for you or
your organization to belong to one or both of EVNETNEWS and EVNETFORUM.
Different people in your organizations might take responsibility for monitoring
or participating in different lists. Depending on your relationship with EvNet,
you (your organization) may belong to EVNETWORK as well.
Why both EVNETWORK and LITTLE
RED SCHOOL HOUSE?
- Each has its
advantages.
- The advantage of EVNETWORK is
that it is directly on the internet. Subscribers will be updated always on the
progress of work simply by logging into their internet account. Its
disadvantage is the difficulty of keeping track of hard-to-find files in its
monthly archives.
- The advantage of LITTLE RED
SCHOOL HOUSE is its ease of use, its sychronous chat utilities, and its simple
organization of files under clickable topical folders. Its disadvantage is the
special client software needed to access it, and its location off the
Internet.
As the files, and the
specialization and volume of work increases, there will probably be a natural
evolution of the division of activity between EVNETWORK and LITTLE RED SCHOOL
HOUSE. But to get us up and running, it is perhaps best to begin with both, and
make transitions as needed. |
